Osteopathy can be very beneficial for children at all stages of their life.

Paediatric osteopathy is a specialist form of assessment and treatment of children and infants.

Although most babies recover smoothly and easily from birth, there can be more complicated situations such as C-section, instrumental delivery or simply a long labour, which can cause tensions and stresses in the infant. Osteopathy can relieve these tensions and unlock patterns that if left to develop, can unsettle a baby.

Some of the manifestations we see in babies include:

Wind, colic and sleep difficulties
Plagiocephaly (flat head) and torticollis
Irritable babies
Feeding difficulties
teething problems
Earache, glue ear
Sticky eye
Sinus problems, recurrent chest infections
Club foot

A paediatric osteopathy consultation consists of:

understanding the case history including the pregnancy, the birth process and current symptoms and concerns.
Clinical examination; such as reflexes, joints, muscle tension and cranium.
Treatment; blending cranial osteopathy and myofascial release.

If necessary, parents are taught stretches, exercises and certain positions to do with baby or child to continue the treatment at home.

As each child grows through her developmental milestones, we can provide treatment and exercises to ensure a smooth transition at each phase. We can support the entire family, offering professional advice to help parents manage their child’s health.

Osteopathy can treat aches and pains related to poor posture when your child starts school, and while they grow, spending longer hours sitting at a desk. Obtaining the correct advice early, prevents the onset of future postural complaints. Osteopathy can relieve pain, promote recovery and correct their posture.
