Babies are the most incredible beings, they are so elastic and adaptable, they can mould to your body for 9 months in utero and then pass through the birth canal to take their first breath in the unknown outside world.
Depending on their in-utero journey, what position they have been in or how long they have been engaged for, some patterns of tension may appear in their body. These can stay present after birth and an osteopathy “check up” is always useful to release these tensions.
During birth, the baby is subjected to enormous forces. The baby’s head and body has the remarkable ability to absorb these stresses in a normal delivery. However, some deliveries are more traumatic than others (instrumental, cord around the neck, long labour, baby “stuck”) and this can affect the baby’s body. Some tensions resolve in the few days after birth as the baby starts to cry, suck and yawn but some may remain. Stresses can be found in the cranium as well as in the rest of the body and cranial osteopathy may help to release these tensions.
It is recommended to seek treatment the earlier the better, as soon as the family feel they are settled enough to visit the osteopath. The reason for this is that babies’ cranial bones start to fuse around 1 year old so changes can occur more efficiently before then.
We can also follow your baby’s development, checking the milestones such as grabbing, rolling, crawling and walking…we give the parents advice, exercises and positions to try with the baby to promote their development.

Went twice to see Sophia for back pain. Sophia has a nice touch and explains what she is doing. Wonderful results few days after with the exercises she sent me to practice at home. Highly recommended. Michael Cable

Hightly recommend. Had some treatment here with Sophia, she was fantastic. What I Initially thought was a big problem was easily fixed in two sessions and she gave great follow up exercises. Christopher Phillips
